What to Expect
How PelviPower Works
PelviPower uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to stimulate deep pelvic floor muscle contractions that are not achievable through voluntary exercise alone. During each 28-minute session, the technology delivers approximately 25,000 supramaximal contractions to the pelvic floor muscles, strengthening and re-educating the entire muscle group.
The treatment is completely non-invasive. You remain fully clothed throughout the session, seated comfortably on the PelviPower chair. There is no discomfort, no recovery time, and no need to undress. The electromagnetic pulses pass through clothing and tissue to target the pelvic floor muscles directly.
Who Benefits from PelviPower
PelviPower is particularly effective for women experiencing pelvic floor weakness following childbirth, those with stress urinary incontinence, and women who find traditional pelvic floor exercises (Kegels) difficult to perform correctly or consistently. It is also beneficial for women experiencing pelvic floor-related lower back pain.
Many women struggle to isolate and contract pelvic floor muscles effectively on their own. PelviPower bypasses this difficulty by stimulating the muscles directly, ensuring a complete and targeted workout of the entire pelvic floor with each session.
Your Treatment Course
A standard PelviPower course consists of 6–8 sessions, typically scheduled twice per week. Each session lasts 28 minutes. Your clinician will assess your pelvic floor function before beginning treatment and monitor your progress throughout the course.
Most women begin to notice improvements after 2–3 sessions, with continued strengthening over the full treatment course. Your clinician may recommend maintenance sessions following the initial course to sustain the results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the treatment feel like?
During the session, you will feel a strong but comfortable pulsing sensation in your pelvic floor area as the muscles contract. The intensity is adjustable and your clinician will set it to a level that feels effective without causing discomfort. Most women describe the sensation as unusual but not unpleasant — like an intense but automatic pelvic floor exercise.
Do I need to undress for treatment?
No. PelviPower treatment is completely non-invasive and you remain fully clothed throughout the entire 28-minute session. The electromagnetic pulses pass through clothing to reach the pelvic floor muscles directly. There is no physical examination or intimate procedure involved.
How many sessions will I need?
A typical treatment course consists of 6–8 sessions over 3–4 weeks, with sessions scheduled twice per week. Your clinician will assess your progress and may recommend a shorter or longer course depending on your response. Maintenance sessions may be suggested to sustain improvements.
Is PelviPower suitable after childbirth?
PelviPower is well-suited for post-natal pelvic floor recovery. However, treatment should not commence until you have been cleared by your GP or midwife following delivery, typically at your 6–8 week postnatal check. Your clinician will confirm suitability during the initial assessment.
Can PelviPower replace Kegel exercises?
PelviPower provides a significantly more intensive pelvic floor workout than is achievable through voluntary Kegel exercises — delivering 25,000 contractions in a single session compared to a typical home exercise routine. However, your clinician may recommend continuing with pelvic floor exercises between sessions to complement the treatment and help maintain long-term results.
Are there any contraindications?
PelviPower is not suitable for women who are pregnant, have a cardiac pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, have metal implants in the pelvic area, or have an active urinary tract infection. Your clinician will review your medical history during the initial consultation to confirm suitability.
Supporting Your Recovery
- Stay hydrated — Drink plenty of water before and after each session to support muscle function and recovery.
- Continue pelvic floor exercises — Your clinician may provide a home exercise programme to complement the PelviPower sessions and maintain strength between visits.
- Maintain a bladder diary — Tracking fluid intake, toilet visits, and any leakage episodes between sessions helps your clinician monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan.
- Wear comfortable clothing — While you remain fully clothed during treatment, loose-fitting clothing without metal fastenings (belts, zips) around the pelvic area ensures optimal comfort during the session.
- Discuss progress at each visit — Open communication with your clinician about symptoms, improvements, and any concerns ensures the treatment course is tailored to your needs.
